Lexicon spotlights nonprofit organization in recognition and support of Environmental Awareness Month.
LAS VEGAS, September 1, 2022 — This September, Lexicon Bank is proud to support Green Our Planet, in recognition and support of Environmental Awareness Month, in its monthly Community Spotlight program.
Lexicon Bank made a cash donation and is partnering with the organization for upcoming volunteering events. The Bank seeks additional help from its clients, partners, and community supporters in raising money to help Green Our Planet continue to inspire the next generation of scientists, chefs, and entrepreneurs.
Green Our Planet is a national nonprofit rooted in Las Vegas that connects students to the wonders of the universe through indoor and outdoor school gardens. Green Our Planet’s garden programming increases academic performance, heightens environmental conscientiousness and fosters healthy eating habits in students nationwide while alleviating food deserts where fresh produce is inaccessible. The nonprofit’s turn-key Outdoor Garden STEM Program in Las Vegas is the largest and one of the most comprehensive school garden programs offered in the United States. The gardens serve as a hands-on learning spot for students both in clubs and in classes using a curriculum developed by the nonprofit that highlights the importance of conservation and STEM learning.
Every September, environmental organizations around the world come together in recognition of Environmental Awareness Month to shed light on issues such as pollution, global warming, and conservation. Green Our Planet embraces this mantra throughout the year and the Bank is excited to join forces.
The Green Our Planet’s signature event, the bi-annual Giant Student Farmers Market, is scheduled on October 20th from 10 am – 1 pm at the Clark County Government Center. Over 500 students from 50 different Nevada schools are expected to attend. Leading up to the day of the market, students will learn about financial literacy and put together a business plan around their school’s garden. On the day of the market, the students will then get to experience the real-life entrepreneurship skills they were learning about as they run their farmers market stands and share their fresh fruits and vegetables with Las Vegas Locals.
Lexicon Bank’s support is part of the Lexicon Bank Community Spotlight program, a monthly initiative that highlights local non-profit organizations that are making a difference in the Southern Nevada community.
“We are proud to spotlight Green Our Planet this month, just in time for Environmental Awareness Month,” said Stacy Watkins, Lexicon Bank President, and CEO. “We are fortunate to have such a special connection with this organization and will continue to recognize and support the conservation of local school gardens to help grow and nourish Nevada’s youth.”
