Spot the Scam Before It Starts. #BanksNeverAskThat

Nearly 75 percent of Americans have experienced some form of online scam or attack.* Every day, thousands of people fall victim to scams delivered through emails, texts and calls from scammers pretending to be their bank, a loved one, the government or law enforcement. In fact, Americans lost an estimated $68 billion to scams in 2025.**

At Lexicon Bank, we’re committed to helping you spot scams and protect yourself from fraud. We’ve joined the American Bankers Association and banks across the country in a nationwide effort to help you protect your personal information and your money.

One of the best ways to protect yourself from a scam is knowing what to look for and recognizing when something doesn’t seem right.

Here are six signs of a scam and what you can do to protect yourself:

  • You’re pressured to open a link. Don’t click it. Block the sender.

  • You’re called out of the blue and asked not to tell anyone. Hang up and verify the request independently.

  • You receive an unexpected email attachment. Don’t open it. Delete the email.

  • You’re asked for personal information like your PIN, passwords or Social Security number. Don’t provide it. Hang up or stop responding.

  • You’re pressured to log into a payment app or send money through one. Stop, block and report the request.

  • An unexpected message pressures you to click a link, send money or reply. Pause and visit lexiconbank.com/contact or call the number on the back of your card.
